Uganda and Kampala Ostomy Awareness and Education Program
In January, EOA President, Jon Thorkelsson, took part in an ostomy awareness and education program starting in Uganda. Ostomy organisations chairpersons from Africa, stoma nurses, ostomates and others attended. Awareness was raised with an almost 10 km walk from close to the airport in Entebbe with a brass band leading the group, which ended before a hospital in Entebbe which was given stoma appliances to use. This was followed by a media interview.
The following day, a workshop was held in Kampala that went really well. Nurses, ostomates, and leaders of ostomy organisations joined hands and learned and explained life with a stoma.
